What is desensitizing and counter-conditioning?

To desensitize means to expose, and counter- condition means to change. The goal is to reduce stress, anxiety and fear when your pet comes to the vet by exposing them to the veterinary office in a setting that is positive and fun, and therefore changes the emotion from fear and anxiety to excitement and fear free.

How do These Sessions work?

The sessions are held at AMC in an exam room. The room is treated with pheromones to help to create a since of calmness and relaxation (Adaptil and Feliway). High value treats are offered, as well as toys.

Each session is focused on the goals you have for your pet when they come to the vet office. For example If your pet hates to have its nails trimmed then the goal will be to work toward a stress free nail trim.

This program is also great if you just got a new puppy and you want to avoid potential behavior problems at the vet.

It is also recommend for cats and kittens.

The sessions are one on one and are about 30 minutes a session. They are conducted by Brittany Thomas. Brittany is a licensed veterinary technician, and a certified animal behavior consultant. She is also Fear Free Certified L2 and Low Stress Handling Certified.

There are several packages and options available when it comes to DSCC Sessions. If you have questions or would like to make an appointment please contact Brittany directly my sending an email to: mrsbrittanythomas@hotmail.com
